This Perry Dye redesign is a challenging course, to say the least. Light winds, rolling terrain, rough, and Dye-inspired railroad ties, as well as several tree-lined fairways make this a tough course, especially from the back tees. Peninsula lake greens are well-guarded by deep pot bunkers, another Dye course trait. A scenic creek, which meanders throughout the course, plus ponds offer several water hazards to contend with. Bordered by the Laguna Mountains, the area commands some scenic views. Homes in the immediate area start around $300,000.

- Golf: 6,028-yard (whites) Par 72. Five sets of tees to accommodate all levels of play. Driving range and practice greens. Full pro shop facilities and instruction available. Local PGA star Phil Mickelson notes the 18th at Carlton Oaks as one of the best finishing holes in golf. The 14th, a 380-yd par 4 is probably one of the toughest: A dogleg left to a tight landing requiring accuracy off the tee; and a second shot to a well-bunkered green through the trees.
- Green Fees: Approximately $55-80 for green fees, carts included. Semi-Private club; Memberships available; call pro shop for additional information on fees, policies and specials.
